Keep That Trim Looking Fresh For Longer!

So you've just gone for a fresh trim, skin fade into a number 3 on top. You've left the barber's chair feeling all kinds of fresh; feeling like an absolute 10/10. If only you could keep your trim looking as sharp as it does now for longer...

Well at Genus, we're not in the business of telling lies. The simple truth is this: No amount of anything is going to extensively prolong your haircut. In fact, the shorter your haircut, the faster you will notice the regrowth.

For example, if you've just had a buzzcut, by the next week, you will see noticeable regrowth. Plus, if you've had a haircut such as a skinfade or hightop where the barber has given you a sharp angled shape-up, it's important to remember that your hair doesn't naturally grow in that shape!

Hair literally starts growing back as soon as you cut it, unless you remove the hair at the root for example through waxing which could allay regrowth for 2-3 weeks. That being said, here are 3 quick tips we've put together that will help you maintain the freshness of your haircuts that little bit longer!

1.) Stop over-washing your hair!

Shampooing your hair every single day is generally not recommended as this will strip your hair of its natural oils. This can cause your hair to dry out and frizz, which will have your hair looking messier in between haircuts! Unless your hair requires it, we don't advise washing your hair any more than 3 times a week!

2.) ALWAYS use conditioner after shampooing your hair!

It is imperative that you condition your hair after shampooing it as this will help to replenish some of the natural oils lost when shampooing.

Conditioning your hair not only moisturises it but also helps your hair retain moisture. This will have your hair looking fuller and more radiant in general which will help prolong the freshness of a new haircut!

3.) Comb/brush your hair properly!

In order to properly comb your hair, you should choose a comb that is suitable for the length of hair you have. For example, the longer and thicker your hair is, it becomes more appropriate to use a wide toothed comb whereas with short hairdos like the buzzcut, it's more effective to use a narrow toothed comb.

Combing your hair can helps to keep your hair tidy thus prolonging the effects of a haircut. However, be careful that you're not over zealous when it comes to brushing or combing your hair as this can actually damage your hair!
